Oil and gas sites can use shipping containers for equipment storage when the prime contractor or operator approves the unit, location and contents under the site-specific hazard assessment. Clean mechanical spares may be appropriate; flammables, gas cylinders, contaminated equipment, batteries and chemical products require separate review. A standard container is not automatically a classified electrical room, pressure-equipment store or safe occupied workspace.
